Job Description

PURPOSE:

Looking for 3-6+ month duration Co-Op at our Groton, CT location.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Co-Op will work on assignments related to aerospace manufacturing operations, production support, continuous improvement, and plant initiatives. These increasingly challenging assignments will provide foremost an effective learning experience and then a sound operational and/or financial return for the PCC organization.

The student will gain hands-on exposure to plant operations, cross-functional collaboration, manufacturing processes, and operational problem-solving while supporting the Operations and Plant Leadership teams.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Collect, compile, and analyze operational and production data including throughput, downtime, labor utilization, scrap, schedule adherence, and workflow efficiency.
  • Support plant operations initiatives including continuous improvement projects, production tracking, and operational reporting.
  • Observe and document manufacturing and operational processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of operational procedures, standardized work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Support production planning, workflow coordination, and plant performance initiatives.
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities related to production inefficiencies, delays, or operational challenges.
  • Assist with implementation and tracking of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams on cross-functional projects.
  • Support plant manager and operations leadership with special projects and operational priorities.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, charts, graphs, presentations, and reports to support operational analysis and decision-making.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and operational reviews.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for assigned operational projects and tasks.
  • Work within specifications provided to meet project goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate on project teams for assigned projects; analyze operational improvements and process enhancements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONS:

Reports to Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or designated Operations Leadership representative.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Computer skills must include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and interact with multiple departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Actively enrolled as a student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
    • Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
