Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

This position will coordinate health education for the South Phoenix Healthy Start Student Doula Program. In this role, you will provide leadership education and mentorship to new doulas. As the Student Doula Coordinator, you will be responsible for assigning SPHS participants to student doulas. You will also supervise and provide coverage for student doula births.

We Require

  • Completion of all practicum births and currently holds a current credential from DONA or Doulas International or similarly accredited institution (state, national or international)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Education, or a related field

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis

Job Contributions

  • Coordinates, supervises, and provides coaching to ten student doulas to ensure compliance with program practices, values, and standards

  • Facilitates new and ongoing student doula work

  • Recruits and refers competent women/men from the community to be trained as doulas

  • Collaborates with community partners to confirm the program's effectiveness and informs the Project Director of any community opportunities or concerns

  • Ensures all health education provided by doulas is evidence-based and is presented in an accurate and culturally appropriate manner

  • Educate student doulas monthly and develop a doula curriculum

  • Develop and implement a yearly doula student manual with scheduled events, education, training, and tours

  • Maintains complete and organized doula grant files

  • Monitors doula certificates and training to ensure compliance with program standards and policies

  • Verifies and tracks active doula students and maintains communication with contract students through email, in-person, and/or phone, with monthly communication at a minimum; and meets with the team every other month

Working Conditions

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness, humidity, respiratory hazards, noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

  • Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, and requires walking/standing to a significant degree

  • Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire

  • Must secure and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete a background check

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid (adult and infant) certification within six months of hire

  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
