SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for supervising plant operations to ensure efficient production of quality products, including safety and environmental compliance, planning and organizing work activity, directing personnel, and maintenance coordination.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
  • Promotes, leads, and supports Westlake's SIT/USIT, PACE, and SafeStart initiatives.
  • Supervises daily plant operations to efficiently produce quality products at specified rates and in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Ensures timely reporting of incidents and injuries to management. Oversees incident entries into the incident management system, including investigations, 5-whys and root cause analysis.
  • Coordinates raw material supplies for the unit.
  • Works to achieve unit and site goals and objectives plus participates in the development of goals.
  • Promotes and drives good housekeeping in the unit.
  • Oversees the VCM lab operations.
  • Works with the unit trainer and others to make sure the operations training program is effective, updated, and implemented.
  • Participates and leads efforts to complete HSE requirements such as action item closure, audits, hazard assessments, and other required HSE activities.
  • Evaluates the performance of the shift supervisors and other direct reports to meet goals and objectives. Provides effective feedback on the performance. Ensures that supervisors are also completing timely and appropriate reviews of their direct reports.
  • Ensures appropriate corrective disciplinary processes are implemented in the operating unit.
  • Promotes and participates in Westlake's Continuous Improvement process activities as part of the department team.
  • Engages and coordinates with the unit maintenance team to help achieve all unit goals.
  • Monitors cost of operations to stay within budget and to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepares daily, monthly and/or other reports required to keep management informed on performance of operation, improvements made or needed and personnel issues.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a strong leadership background in VCM operations with at least 10 years of experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of operations or related experience in a chemical manufacturing facility is required.
  • Strong, proven demonstrated leadership ability
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good computer skills, with working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Familiarity with VCM operations preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, climb, squat and bend. Must be able to use hands to reach, grasp, touch, handle, or feel. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is high. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which requires usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.
