The primary duty station is at our Cullowhee campus.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented worker to assist our IT department with the installation and setup of networking equipment. This role is ideal for someone who is eager to gain hands-on experience in network and communications infrastructure.
* Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of networking equipment; including switches, access points, and uninterruptible power supplies.
* Support the setup and testing of network connections to ensure optimal performance and security.
* Help troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues under the guidance of senior IT staff.
* Document network configurations, changes, and updates accurately.
* Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth and efficient network operations.
* Follow safety protocols and best practices during installation and setup activities.

Working hours will generally be Monday-Friday from 10:00am - 7:00pm and can be adjusted based upon management discretion.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Individuals should be comfortable working with technology at an intermediate level and have some familiarity providing IT support to end users. This position will work closely with WCU IT staff in support of existing IT processes and projects. IT will provide on the job training to extend an individual's existing knowledge and help ensure sufficient preparedness to handle day-to-day activities.

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and one year of experience in the field of technology related to the position's role. Coursework in computer or information technology may be substituted year for year for the required experience.

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. regularly, be comfortable mounting equipment, work on ladders, and in an active-construction environment
  • Valid NC Driver License

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to those applicants with:

  • demonstrated troubleshooting skills and repair work,

  • AAS degrees,
  • previous hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
  • technology training and/or higher education experience
