General Summary:

The Senior Director, Global Commercial Strategy (GCS), Pain will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping Vertex's chronic pain franchise and advancing a transformative pipeline in an area of significant unmet need. This individual will lead commercialization launch strategy for chronic pain, including the launch of Journavx in painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (pDPN) and future chronic pain indications, with responsibility for defining launch indication strategy, patient and customer insights, positioning, and core messaging. Reporting to the Vice President of Global Commercial Strategy, this leader will drive cross-functional alignment and help ensure the long-term success of the global pain portfolio.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own the Brand Strategy all chronic pain indications, beginning with Journavx pDPN indication and ensure alignment with the global strategy.

  • Support elevation of world class brand development and launch readiness for the pain portfolio and within Vertex's Commercial organization as part of broader transformation initiatives and sharing best practices across GCS. pDPN will be the model for future pain products and for other DAs.

  • Lead the asset brand development including defining the target patient population, product positioning, and brand strategy.

  • Take ownership of market dynamics and customer insights, including payer, HCP, and consumer perspectives, to inform launch readiness planning and enhance commercialization opportunities.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive launch readiness plan, including critical success factors and tracking progress against them. Collaborate with the US team to ensure launch readiness for the new pDPN indication, including field force deployment, promotional strategies, and access planning.

  • Drive branded HCP campaign development

  • Provide input into forecasting assumptions and engage in competitive scenario planning to support long range planning.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop compelling clinical, patient, and economic value propositions.

  • Regularly engage with external customers through congresses, field visits, and insights generation.

  • Foster a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity in all activities.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience in defining brand or portfolio strategies, generating insights, and applying them to business opportunities.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven strategic recommendations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive presence.

  • In-depth understanding of legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in global commercial roles, particularly in strategy and planning for pipeline assets.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

  • Ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams, fostering accountability and engagement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, business, or marketing; advanced degree (MBA or PhD) preferred.

  • 12+ years of experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals, including marketing, consulting, or agency roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range:

$228,000 - $342,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
