Certified Phlebotomy Tech - Per Diem - 139449

UC San Diego
United States, California, San Diego
May 13, 2026
DESCRIPTION

Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) support is needed to perform timely and accurate blood draws for inpatients and emergency department patients, helping to minimize delays in patient care and laboratory testing. CPTs are responsible for collecting blood specimens, labeling and transporting them to the laboratory, and ensuring proper patient identification and safety practices. They also assist with stat and timed collections that are critical for diagnosis and treatment decisions. At East Campus, CPTs provide phlebotomy coverage 24/7. Insufficient staffing will result in the cancellation of CPT draws, which shifts the responsibility to nursing staff. This not only increases the burden on nurses but may also delay specimen collection and result turnaround time, directly impacting patient care in high-acuity areas such as the Emergency Department and ICU.
