| Organizational Unit Overview |
The mission of the Student Academic Success Services office is to support
ECU students in achieving their academic goals through comprehensive academic success services.
Situated within Academic Affairs, this office reports directly to Student Academic Success Services under Learner Operations.
The Associate Director for Academic Success and Learning Communities will report directly to the Executive Director of the Student Academic Success Services (
SASS) unit and is responsible for overseeing and managing
SASS Success learning communities, learning community student recruitment, success coaching, and providing targeted support to special student populations. This position plays a critical role in promoting student engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, and enhancing the academic experience for
ECU students. |
| Job Duties |
15% Student Recruitment and Outreach * Lead efforts to recruit and enroll students into success learning communities, focusing on first-year students and first-generation students.
* Collaborate with success leadership, Learner Operations, admissions, academic departments, and Student Affairs partners to promote learning community opportunities to prospective and current students.
* Develop marketing materials, conduct outreach events, and participate in recruitment fairs to attract students to the program.
25% Special Populations Support * Identify and address the unique needs of special student populations at
ECU including students in academic difficulty, first-generation students, and transfer students.
* Create and implement tailored support programs and resources to ensure these students have access to academic success opportunities.
* Partner with campus offices to provide holistic support for special student populations.
* Respond to student referrals from campus stakeholders such as parents, staff, and faculty.
20% Programming & Engagement * Design and execute academic programming that fosters a sense of community among learning community members and enhances the student experience.
* Work collaboratively with student success learnership to implement effective support strategies focused on retention and persistence of Freshmen and Sophomores in academic difficulty.
* Organize workshops, guest speaker events, and co-curricular activities that align with the goals of the student success.
* Teach and oversee
COAD 1000 sections for success learning community students.
* Provide academic success programming for Campus Living Learning Communities and Residential Advisors.
25%
Success Coaching - Provide personalized academic success coaching to students within the learning communities, offering guidance on goal setting, time management, study strategies, and career planning.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with students to assess progress and address challenges related to academic, personal, and social aspects of university life.
- Develop and implement action plans to support students' academic success, connecting them with resources such as tutoring, advising, and campus services as needed.
15% Assessment and Reporting - Monitor student engagement and success within the learning communities through data collection and analysis.
- Prepare reports on student outcomes, retention rates, and program effectiveness for university stakeholders.
- Use assessment data to continuously improve learning community initiatives and student support services.

| Minimum Education/Experience |
Qualifications and Experience
* A Master's degree in Academic or Student Affairs, Higher Education, Education, or a closely related field.
* Demonstrated knowledge of college student development theory and student support programs.
* Teaching experience in secondary or post-secondary environments.
* Demonstrated program management skills.
* Experience designing and conducting workshops, seminars, and or training sessions.
* Experience working in a fast-paced environment. |

* Strong attention to details, ability to work independently.
* 3 years of experience working in a college or university environment.
