The Sr. Compliance Specialist is responsible for the facilitation, coordination, and execution of regulatory-related projects (with a current emphasis in privacy) on behalf of DFA's Value Integrity Compliance Program. Work involves diverse and complex tasks across projects, including understanding the applicability and potential impact of certain regulations on DFA, and collaborating with business units to document internal controls, ensure compliance, and mitigate risk.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Lead cross-functional projects for compliance initiatives (with a current emphasis in privacy) across the organization
  • Collaborate with business units in the development of solutions to limit compliance risk, support risk mitigation plans to completion, and provide guidance to address changes in the regulatory environment
  • Research, evaluate, and respond to unique or unprecedented compliance and regulatory inquiries
  • Navigate ambiguity and incomplete information by identifying the right stakeholders (e.g., business owners, IT, Security, Legal, and outside counsel), facilitating discussions or fact-finding, and documenting outcomes, decisions, and next steps
  • Drive cross-functional execution to meet agreed-upon project milestones and deliverables, including the coordination of dependencies, follow-ups, and escalation of risks/issues
  • Document and/or evaluate processes and corresponding internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable US and international laws, regulations, and policies
  • Evolve and execute the organization's Data Privacy Impact Assessment methodology, and utilize the privacy module within DFA's enterprise-wide solution to capture the results
  • Evolve DFA's Privacy Compliance Program for industry best practices or privacy regulations by updating/creating corporate policies, procedures, guidance, and training materials
  • Operate effectively in an evolving program environment by helping define emerging workstreams, building repeatable processes (e.g., intake/triage, documentation standards, control libraries), and driving continuous improvement as the privacy compliance program matures
  • Help shape the evolution of the program by proposing enhancements to governance, metrics, reporting, and tooling to improve scalability and effectiveness
  • In partnership with Legal, provide education on emerging and existing privacy risks with the business to guide decision making
  • Drive discussions on the creation and implementation of any necessary employee communications related to new or altered privacy regulations
  • Contribute to the organization's Privacy Risk Assessment
  • Partner with DFA's Legal Department from an advisory perspective as it relates to the organization's privacy initiatives

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of experience in audit, compliance, business process, or related work experience, including program and/or project management experience
  • Experience leading cross-functional project teams with members that are not direct reports


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to research and interpret US and international regulations, guidance documents, and laws
  • Working knowledge of governance, risk, and controls concepts (internal controls), including process-level risk assessment, control design, and control effectiveness
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity (including being comfortable not knowing the answer initially) and the organizational savvy to determine where to go, who to engage, and how to obtain information efficiently
  • Ability to build and iterate program components in a developing area, including defining scope, creating standard work, and recommending improvements as needs evolve
  • Strong communication, influence, and facilitation skills to lead cross-functional meetings and working sessions, and drive timely decisions and documentation
  • Demonstrates an approachable, professional demeanor
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to provide quality deliverables on time
  • Integrity and commitment to the highest ethical standards and personal values, including proven ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines across concurrent projects with competing deadlines

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, as well as work independently with minimum supervision
  • Strong analytical skills to define problems, formulate logical solutions, and make recommendations
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail
