Position Summary

The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist provides day-to-day clinical and operational support for the AON in-house pharmacy. This role includes, but not limited to, prescription verification, patient counselling, team support, and provider consultation.

Key Performance Areas

KPA 1 - Order/Rx verification

  • Comply with all Federal and State laws regarding filling and dispensing prescriptions.
  • Verify and ensure all prescriptions processed are true and correct.
  • Comply with all FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) program requirements.
  • Review prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, dosing accuracy, drug interactions, regulatory compliance while maintaining turnaround time expectations and minimizing dispensing errors.

KPA 2 - Patient Care & Clinical Review

  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to providers
  • Assist with prior authorization support and formulary initiatives
  • Review medical records to ensure accurate, timely and compliant verification of medication order and prescription support.

KPA 3 - Customer Service

  • Provides exceptional customer service to patients, staff, fellow employees and third-party payers: interacts in a professional manner with all contacts to promote effective exchanges of information.

KPA 4 - Adherence & Counseling

  • Utilize the company's adherence program to counsel patients on the use of their medications, including appropriate lab/patient follow-up to improve adherence.
  • Conduct patient counseling as required by implemented pharmacy programs and answer patient questions regarding therapy.
  • Provide consultation regarding new patient education, adverse event management, drug interactions, and oncology/specialty medication questions

KPA 5 - Training, Education & Compliance:

  • Maintain quality assurance and provide ongoing training to pharmacy staff as directed.
  • Promoting a culture of learning, accountability, and continue growth based on pharmacy needs.
  • Maintain all required REMS program licenses, trainings and/or other learnings.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures as outlined by the company.

KPA 6 - Operational Support

  • Perform additional clinical or operational duties as assigned to support safe and efficient patient care.
  • Support all pharmacy process improvement initiatives and collaborate across teams to meet departmental and patient care needs.
  • Provide and support the implementation of business solutions as implemented by the company.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • PharmD degree or bachelor's degree in pharmacy, required.

Minimum Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Experience with EMR order set build, drug substitution/interchange protocols, and data analytics preferred

Certifications/Licenses

  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) preferred but not required
  • PGY1/PGY2 residency training preferred but not required.
