Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission sets and enforces professional standards for law enforcement officers statewide. It oversees officer certification, training requirements, and continuing education, ensuring agencies meet statutory mandates and maintain high levels of integrity and accountability.

You help elevate law enforcement standards statewide by ensuring officers are well-trained, certified, and accountable contributing directly to public safety and trust.

Job Overview:

Supervise a team of regulatory, law enforcement training, and administrative staff, ensuring accountability, consistency, and high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Assistant Director in providing oversight of POST Commission operations and daily activities, including officer certification, training approvals, investigations, compliance monitoring, and records management.

  2. Support the POST Commission by preparing meeting materials, delivering operational briefings, and guiding decision making processes as needed.

  3. Serve as a primary liaison to Commissioners, executive leadership, legal counsel, and statewide law enforcement agencies to provide regulatory guidance and interpret POST rules and Tennessee law.

  4. Support oversight of the salary supplement and Sheriff Packet and certification review processes to ensure statutory compliance and timely processing.

  5. Lead modernization and process improvement initiatives, including technology adoption, workflow redesign, and implementation of statewide training or regulatory programs.

  6. Support oversight and tracking of statewide law enforcement grants, ensuring compliance with program guidelines and effective use of public funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelors degree and experience equivalent to substantial (five or more years of) full-time responsible law enforcement work including, at least, two years of law enforcement instruction work.
