A research technician position is available in the Howard Hughes Laboratory of Dr. Stephen Elledge at Harvard Medical School. The candidate will assist scientists in research focusing on using human cells to gain novel insights into how the human immune system targets cancers (cancer immunology) and how cancers evolve in a tissue-specific manner.

  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques (cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, and next-generation sequencing).
  • Perform tissue culture work doing plasmid transfection and retroviral infection.
  • Characterize cellular function using biochemistry and cell biology techniques (Western blotting, immunofluorescence, chromatography, flow cytometry, CRISPR, and reporter gene assays).
  • Perform and analyze immunologic assays in cell culture setting to assess B- and T-cell specificity and activity, as well as molecular panning experiments to assess antibody specificity and function.
  • Assist in CRISPR functional genomic screen to identify genes required for the selective survival of tumor cells.
  • Organize and summarize acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology or related science field
  • 1-3 years of experience in molecular laboratory preferred

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with molecular and computational biology.
  • Knowledge of sterile tissue culture technique.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
