Heat Treat Operator - 2nd Shift

The Heat Treat Operator is
responsible for performing various thermal processes for alloys of Aluminum,
Titanium, Steel, and Inconel to support downstream forming processes and to
achieve a final temper or condition per customer specifications.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understands and follows customer specifications, internal work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures and shop travelers for thermal processing of various alloys.
  • Uses precision measuring tools for the set up of heat treat batches.
  • Learns to set up ovens and heat treat equipment including fixtures, racks, baskets, temperature controllers, and timers.
  • Learns to identify fixture, rack, basket, or other tooling deficiencies, and alerts Value Stream Manager or Supervisor.
  • Completes regular preventive maintenance on equipment assigned.
  • Reads, follows, and updates shop travelers.
  • Learns to create and interpret Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Works both independently and in a team setting to achieve Value Stream goals.
  • Utilizes basic shop math skills, including addition and subtraction of whole numbers and time intervals.
  • Reads, understands, and follows internal procedures and policies.
  • Understands and follows through on both verbal and written instructions.
  • Understands and uses the concepts taught relating to Lean Manufacturing Principles and 6-S guidelines.
  • Learns basic principles of metallurgy.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 to 12 months' aerospace manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Math Skills - decimals, percentages, fractions; geometry and trigonometry preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars.
  • Ability to read and understand internal procedures and policies and travelers.
  • Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions, software programs and internal ERP systems.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgical heat treat principles.
  • Understands and follows through on both verbal and written instructions.
  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Communicates courteously and professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Annual baseline hearing test is required.
  • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Regularly lifting 35 lbs., occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.

This is a generic job posting for a Heat Treat Operator. Depending on the candidate's skills, qualifications and experience, they will be hired into an entry (I) level, intermediate (II) level or expert (III) level job and pay scale.

Pay range: $18.00-19.50/hour
