Job Summary

The Environmental Monitoring Technician II is accountable for results in a fast-paced environment. The Level II Technician follows applicable SOPs and cGMPs to perform environmental monitoring for the facility, and may also perform simple, routine basic interpretation of environmental monitoring (EM) results, with minimal supervision. The Environmental Monitoring Technician II is also responsible for hazardous waste and sanitation/cleaning of the Microbiology laboratory.



On-Site Expectations

    100% on-site position.
  • 1st Shift: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm


Responsibilities

  • Performs routine daily, weekly, and monthly sampling of Water for Injection, compressed gas, and the environment to detect microbial, non-viable, and chemical contamination.
  • Assists Microbiologists with troubleshooting and more advanced investigations.
  • Supports manufacturing operations by continuous environmental monitoring viable and non-viable particles.
  • Performs assigned tasks carefully and on schedule according to standard operating procedure and supervisor instruction.
  • Performs necessary cleaning for the laboratory including pharmaceutical waste.
  • Orders, receives, and stores laboratory supplies.
  • Performs complex interpretation of EM results independently.
  • Performs trending of environmental monitoring data, including quarter trend reports.
  • Performs media fill inspection of vials.
  • Assists in training junior analysts.
  • Participates in company sponsored training.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment free from safety hazards.
  • Provides training and oversight to less experienced technicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with 2-3+ years or related experience or Degree in a science-related field with 1-2+ years of related experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good math skills.
  • Ability to be trained and to mentor others.
  • Ability to act independently.
  • Ability to interact well with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with LIMS is preferred (for example, MODA or NuGenesis).
  • General understanding of GDP and operating in a CGMP environment.
  • Strong customer service focus and excellent customer contact skills.


Travel Expectations

  • Up to 15% travel required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment for specific job duties to be performed. Such personal protective equipment may include, but not limited to safety eyewear, hearing protection, various types of respirators/breathing apparatus, lab coats, full protective body coverings, various types of gloves, etc. Other tasks involving elevated work may require the use of a body harness and lanyard. Additionally, the employee may be required to operate an industrial vehicle.
