About the Role MWH is currently seeking a qualified Field Engineer to support Civil/Structural/Earthworks components on a significant wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) project in Austin, Texas. The Field Engineer / Construction Project Engineer supports the successful planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects in the field. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and contract requirements. This position also supports Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) efforts, assisting with digital modeling, coordination, and visualization using tools such as Revit and CAD to improve constructability, planning, and field execution. Essential Functions
- Assist the Project Engineer and Superintendent with daily project coordination and field operations.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Support preparation and tracking of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams to ensure work aligns with the project schedule and scope.
- Assist with quantity tracking, cost monitoring, and progress reporting.
- Participate in project meetings including subcontractor coordination and planning meetings.
- Maintain accurate project records including drawings, specifications, permits, and field reports.
- Conduct field walks to observe work progress, safety and verify work is being installed conforming to project plans and quality standards.
- Assist with procurement coordination and tracking of materials and equipment deliveries.
- Support project scheduling efforts and track project milestones.
- Collaborate with safety teams to ensure work is completed in accordance with project safety standards and company policies.
Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Responsibilities
- Support Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) coordination efforts to enhance project planning and execution.
- Assist with development and review of 3D models using Revit and CAD platforms.
- Participate in model coordination to identify potential design conflicts or constructability issues.
- Work with project teams to integrate digital models into field planning and construction sequencing.
- Utilize digital drawings and modeling tools to support layout, coordination, and visualization of project components.
- Help maintain model updates and documentation as design revisions occur.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent construction experience.
- Internship or previous experience in construction project management, field engineering, or VDC support preferred.
- Basic understanding of construction methods, project scheduling, and contract documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, or other CAD-based modeling software.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with field teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to work in field environments, including outdoor construction sites.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with water/wastewater construction.
- Civil/structural/earthworks experience on large heavy civil construction or process projects, i.e. power, gas, petrochem or mining process.
- Onsite experience with a self-performing contractor, demonstrating successful performance on projects greater than $10M.
