Summary:
Under broad supervision, works independently to direct and coordinate all the clinical nutrition activities. Using advanced clinical knowledge mentors staff and assists in the development of the clinical staff. Supervises the Clinical Dietitians participating in the completion of the Dietetic Technician's and Clinical Dietitians performance reviews. Performs nutrition assessments as well as develops and implements clinical nutrition quality improvement plans and goals. Assumes responsibility for interviewing and hiring new staff and scheduling clinical staff based on budgeted hours.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: See "License/Certifications"
  2. License/Certifications: Must be a Licensed Registered Dietitian with a B.S. degree and Master degree or eligibility to sit for the Clinical Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) credential. Within 18 months of hire must hold CNSC or Masters Degree. Must maintain Maine State Dietitian License and Registration in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  3. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical nutrition experience preferred.
  4. Work requires ability to concentrate and be attentive to detail when assessing and calculating patients' nutritional needs, developing care plans and providing ongoing evaluation of nutrition.
  5. Must possess high level of interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with patients, families, medical staff and employees in explaining and providing nutrition educational information.
  6. Must possess relatively high level of analytical abilities in order to assess patients' medical and nutritional status, formulate care plans and evaluate patients' responses and progress.
  7. Work requires one - two months of orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and hospital policies and procedures.
  8. Ability to successfully lead and direct a team of clinical staff, knowledge of hospital policy and procedure methodology as well as knowledge of budget principles. Prior management experience preferred.
