Main Duties & Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
The Production Control employee supports production by picking materials, releasing work orders, tracking job status (WIP), coordinating materials, inventory locations and priorities to meet schedule, and delivery requirements. This role works with production, purchasing, inventory, quality, engineering, and shipping to maintain accurate system transactions and clear communication on changes, bottlenecks, and due dates.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Create, release (Epicor), and maintain production jobs/work orders, routers, and travelers for manufacturing orders per planning requirements.
* Schedule and prioritize work with production supervisors/leads to support on-time delivery and efficient flow through work centers.
* Verify material availability and coordinate shortages with other production departments, purchasing, receiving, and inventory (expedite as needed).
* Track job status (WIP), update due dates, and communicate constraints, hot jobs, and schedule changes to stakeholders.
* Perform accurate Epicor transactions to support production execution, including job releases, material picking, material issues/returns, labor moves, operation reporting, completions to inventory, and recording scrap/rework per quality requirements.
* Review prints, BOMs, and revision levels to ensure the correct documentation is released and used on the floor; coordinate engineering changes and revisions.
* Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, location/bin maintenance, and discrepancy investigation.
* Coordinate with quality and shipping to resolve holds, nonconformances, and packaging/ship readiness for completed production orders.
* Prepare routine production reports (schedule attainment, shortages, WIP aging, and open orders) and escalate risks to the supervisor/manager.
* Participate in continuous improvement activities to streamline transactions, reduce lead time, and improve schedule performance.
* Assist with additional duties as needed.
This role is required to be on-site 5 days at the El Cajon, CA location.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* 2+ years of experience in production control, planning, scheduling, or manufacturing coordination in a production/manufacturing environment (preferred).
* Working knowledge of production processes and flow (e.g., assembly, kitting, machining, packaging, testing, and shipping) and how they impact lead time and capacity.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple open orders, changing priorities, and tight deadlines.
* Clear communication skills to coordinate with production/operations, purchasing, inventory, quality, engineering, and shipping.
* Ability to read and interpret bills of material, routers, travelers, and basic manufacturing drawings/revision controls.
* Proficiency with Epicor and Microsoft Excel, including job releases, material picking/issuing, labor moves, and job completions; strong attention to detail for accurate transactions and reporting.
* Ability to safely operate a forklift/powered industrial truck (as assigned) and maintain required operator training/evaluation.
* Ability to safely lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
Compensation
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $27-$29.
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
