THE POSITION

Take the next step in your career as a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC). In this role at State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene, you will train and supervise individuals as they learn the plumbing trade. You will lead meaningful instruction that supports both facility operations and personal skill development. Your expertise will help learners gain confidence and build a foundation for future success.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides classroom and hands-on instruction in the plumbing trade to support both facility operations and inmate vocational training. As a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Trade Instruction: Teach plumbing systems, installation methods, and standard practices in classroom and job site settings
  • Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate crews, assign daily tasks, and inspect completed plumbing work
  • Training Records: Document progress, attendance, and assignment details for all learners
  • Tool Control: Issue, track, and account for materials and tools while enforcing safety and security procedures
  • Project Planning: Determine needed supplies, submit purchase requests, and prepare schedules for training and work assignments

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
