Position Summary

The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Driver is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the MHU for the Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities (IHCD) Service. The primary role is to transport the MHU to scheduled community outreach events and ensure the vehicle is fully operational, clean, and properly maintained at all times.

This role does not involve transporting patients. The driver plays a key role in supporting event operations and ensuring the readiness and functionality of the MHU.

Role Overview:

Vehicle Operation

  • Safely operate and drive the MHU to pre-scheduled outreach events across New York City and surrounding areas.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety protocols, and organizational policies.
  • Ensure timely arrival and proper positioning of the MHU at event sites.
  • Return the vehicle to its designated location at the end of each shift.

Vehicle Maintenance and Readiness

  • Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the MHU is functioning properly.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of fuel, oil, coolant, and other essential fluids, as well as cleanliness.
  • Identify and report any mechanical issues or irregularities promptly.
  • Dispose of garbage and waste at designated locations in accordance with guidelines.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance and servicing as needed.

Specimen Transport

  • Transport specimens from outreach events to the main campus laboratory in a timely and secure manner.
  • Follow all protocols for safe handling, transport, and documentation of specimens, including chain-of-custody requirements.

Event Support

  • Assist with basic setup and breakdown of the MHU at outreach events.
  • Support staff with light logistical needs to ensure smooth event flow.
  • Provide general assistance as needed during events while maintaining a professional and courteous presence.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Complete required logs and documentation related to vehicle use, maintenance, cleaning, and specimen transport.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and organizational guidelines.

Key Qualifications

  • Commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience driving large vehicles (e.g., vans, trucks, or mobile units) preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance.
  • Ability to lift and move light equipment as needed (up to 25 pounds)
  • Strong reliability, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to accommodate varying schedules, locations, and operational needs, including availability to work on weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.

Additional Information:

  • Schedule: Flexible hours that vary between the hours of 8AM-6PM. Some weekends involved.
  • Location:Hybrid1-2 times amonth;633 Third Avenue, New York, NY (twice a week)
  • Reporting to Senior Program Manager, Community Outreach

Pay Range: $23.49 - $32.46 FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
