Job Summary:

This is a full-time Research Scientist position in the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, within the Department of Pediatrics, located at the Anschutz Medical campus in Aurora. The Research Scientist will pursue projects that bridge basic and translational research goals related to the study of mucosal immune responses in allergic diseases, under the direction of the principal investigator (PI). Duties will include independently developing projects, designing and implementing experiments, manuscript and grant preparation, and dissemination of findings through participation in local, national, and international scientific meetings, and may involve training research assistants and student interns. Experimental models used in the research will include in vivo mouse models of disease, in vitro cell culture and cellular assays, and analysis of human biopsies and blood specimens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Critical analysis of the literature and generation of novel hypotheses

  • Designing experiments to test systematically and comprehensively test hypotheses

  • Data analysis and interpretation, and maintaining detailed experimental and data records

  • Preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals

  • In vivo mouse models of disease

  • Protein, DNA, and RNA analyses

  • Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence analyses; working with on-campus Core facilities for spatial tissue analyses

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD in Immunology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related discipline

  • 4+ years of postdoctoral training including experience with in vivo models of allergic disease

  • 5+ total years of experience working with animal models

  • Experience in science writing, including research manuscripts and grant/fellowship applications

  • Demonstration of successful writing in the form of at least 2 published manuscripts.

  • Evidence of competence in oral presentation of research at a national or international conference.

This is a Research Scientist position.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience interpreting transcriptomics datasets

  • Experience with Zeiss laser scanning confocal microscopes and Zen software

  • Experience with image analysis and quantification (Zen, FIJI/ImageJ)

  • Experience with data analysis and preparation of figures for presentation and publication

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of brain development, with a deep understanding of cell fate specification of neural stem cells

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to supervise other lab members

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Research Scientist: $66,000 - $74,000

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
