Position Title: Float Phlebotomist I

Work Location:



  • Primary: 22250 Providence Drive, Southfield, MI 48075 (PSC)
  • Float Locations (Required): Oak Park, Greenfield, Farmington Hills


Assignment Duration: 3+ Months

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Vaccinations required: Hepatitis B, TB, MMR, T-DAP, Flu, Varicella


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist I will perform blood draws, specimen collection, and processing in a high-volume PSC setting. This role also includes troubleshooting, workflow support, and ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.


Background & Context

  • FMLA coverage role
  • High-volume Patient Service Center (PSC)
  • Required to float between multiple nearby locations


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, process, and store specimens accurately
  • Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes ensuring 100% accuracy
  • Follow all specimen handling, storage, and transport protocols
  • Clearly explain collection procedures to patients (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)
  • Maintain and update patient records
  • Package specimens for transport while maintaining integrity standards
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Support lab operations including answering calls and relaying results
  • Participate in training and provide workflow improvement suggestions


Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab/hospital setting
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred
  • At least 2 years of blood draw experience required
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification (if required by state)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite


Working Conditions

  • High-volume PSC environment (30-50 draws/day)
  • Standing for extended periods throughout the day
  • Float required to Oak Park, Greenfield, and Farmington Hills
  • 1 week system training followed by hands-on training
  • Color vision screening required


Additional Information

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week
  • Reliable transportation required for float
