| Position Summary |
The Project Manager for the Carolina Breast Cancer Family of Studies will oversee the development, implementation, and management of research projects from start to finish, with a focus on Carolina Breast Cancer Study Phase 4 and the Integrated Network for Screening, Imaging, Genomics, Histology, and Treatment Outcomes (
INSIGHT). Reporting directly to the Research Project Director, the Project Manager will coordinate all aspects of large epidemiological studies of breast cancer and related studies in North Carolina.
The Carolina Breast Cancer Study investigates how biological, behavioral, and social factors influence breast cancer risk and outcomes. In Phase 4, this includes behavioral interventions designed to improve patient communication, engagement, and self-advocacy, alongside studies of tumor biology, genetics, and social determinants, to better understand and reduce disparities in incidence, progression, and survivorship.
Responsibilities include overall program direction; supervision and coordination of data collection and analysis; database management; grant support; presentation development; reporting and planning; and staff supervision. This position involves collaboration with investigators across multiple departments, centers, and schools at
UNC and beyond. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse or vulnerable populations are essential. The role requires substantial capacity to independently manage research activities and staff across multiple projects. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or professional-level background in sponsored research administration, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
This position requires three years minimum project management and supervisory experience. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Master's degree in Public Health (
MPH), Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a closely related field (or foreign equivalent). Candidates with a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) may be considered if they demonstrate comparable independent research experience and have three or more years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in the conduct of large studies involving primary data collection is preferred, with experience in population-based cancer research studies strongly preferred. Experience with one or more types of data management and tracking software (such as
ACCESS, RedCap) is preferred. The preferred candidate will show demonstrated ability to work effectively with and coordinate activities with medical, hospital and government institutions and/or advocacy groups. |
