Position Overview

The Researcher in Weed Science will conduct independent field research at ROCs at the UMN system. The selected person will also help summarizing the data from 2025 trials and help with the other research activities in the lab.

Job Duties and responsibilities

80% Conducting Independent Field Research
* Conduct independent field research in Weed Science under the supervision of Debalin Sarangi
* Soil sample collection for analysis
* Crop and weed data collection
* Coordinating the trial logistics with other staff members in Weed Science and ROCs, and Co-investigators

10% Summarizing data
* Summarizing data collected in 2025 trials

10% Supporting other researchers in the Weed Science program
* Support other researchers in the lab in their research projects in plot layout, and data collection

Qualifications

Required

B.S. degree in Agronomy, Agroecology, Weed Science or allied fields.

Preferred

Familiarity with agronomic crops and having a U.S. driver's license will be preferred due to having different research locations in the state.

About the Department

Through education, research, and outreach, the mission of the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics is to discover and share knowledge and develop plant genetic materials that increase the efficiency, reliability, and profitability of crop production and utilization within Minnesota and around the world. These research and education activities are conducted in a local to global context to promote efficient crop production, rural and economic vitality, human wellness, environmentally sound practices, biodiversity, renewable energy, and alleviation of poverty and hunger.

The Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics has 25 faculty members with strength in breeding, genetics/genomics, biotechnology, agronomy/agroecology, weed science and crop physiology. Faculty research programs are focused on improvement of traditional and emerging crops and developing agronomic practices for crops that are of key importance to agriculture in the upper Midwest and beyond. Faculty in the department are members of the Applied Plant Sciences, Plant and Microbial Biology, and other graduate programs. The faculty teach in the Plant Science and Food Systems and Sustainable Agriculture interdepartmental undergraduate programs and the Applied Plant Sciences graduate program.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $30.16 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
