DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor, you will provide vocational training designed to equip inmates with the technical skills necessary for successful reintegration into the community. Your role blends classroom instruction with structured, on-the-job training, focusing on developing industry-standard competencies that enhance future employability. You will be responsible for the supervision of inmates during all shop activities and work assignments, ensuring strict adherence to protocols regarding the care, custody, and control of those under your direction. In this capacity, you will receive assignments in the form of work orders, often supported by blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical sketches. You will be expected to exercise professional judgment to independently determine the specific procedures, tools, and materials required for each project. While you will operate with significant autonomy in managing daily vocational tasks, your work will be performed under general supervision. Performance is evaluated by technical and administrative supervisors through formal reports, consultative conferences, and the inspection of completed assignments to ensure all work meets trade standards and safety regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.
Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
