DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will conduct technical work in the field of waste management as it relates to environmental protection. Assignments will be completed in support of the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act Section and be focused on the cleanup of hazardous sites to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations, and policies and procedures under the State Hazardous Sites Cleanup Program, Land Recycling Program, and the Federal Superfund Program. Specific functions will entail identifying and investigating potentially hazardous sites; evaluating individual sites for the implementation of interim or remedial response actions; and reviewing and documenting site studies, remedial investigations, and feasibility study design documents and remediation plans conducted at state and federal sites. Effective communication skills are essential, as you will be tasked with providing professional guidance and advice to the public regarding investigations and remediation activities, standards, and procedures. You will also assist in the development and preparation of news and information releases to the media and public interest groups relating to activities on state and federal Superfund sites. Excellent organizational skills are employed to provide site summaries and budget information, site costs and schedule projections, and to develop and maintain current regional program plans. - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a journey-level specialist in a waste management program; or
- Two years of experience in environmental protection and a bachelor's degree with major course work in biology, chemistry, or in a field closely related to environmental protection. A master's degree with major course work in any of the fields closely related to environmental protection may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
