DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Wayne County Children and Youth Services is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to provide professional social services to children and families within the community. This position involves performing a variety of casework duties designed to support families in achieving improved social, emotional, economic, and physical well-being while promoting the safety, permanency, and well-being of children. Under supervision, the Caseworker 2 conducts interviews with clients, family members, and collateral contacts to obtain social histories and assess barriers impacting child and family functioning. Responsibilities include determining and verifying eligibility for agency programs and services; providing referrals; assisting families in developing plans to improve behaviors and circumstances; and offering counseling and supportive services to help clients address personal and family challenges.
Additional duties include maintaining and managing an assigned caseload; preparing social studies, home studies, case histories, reports, and correspondence; documenting case activity in a timely and organized manner; and ensuring all records are accurate and current. The employee also assists in providing protective and supportive services for abused and neglected children and families in crisis situations. The Caseworker 2 may attend court hearings, prepare case summaries, present testimony when required, and make recommendations regarding case progress. Participation in staff meetings, training courses, and ongoing professional development activities is expected. Work is performed under close supervision, with increasing responsibility, complexity of assignments, and independent judgment as experience and proficiency are gained.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
- On-call 24/7 on a rotating basis. Irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
- Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
- A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
- A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
