Job Description

The Auburn Hills Facilities Engineering Service group is looking for an energetic Engineer supporting the Metrology Lab operations located at CTC. This Engineer will be responsible for providing operational direction to a team Salaried Bargaining Unit (SBU) Technicians as they provide high quality and expeditious repairs and calibration to test equipment located throughout the various laboratories. This position is responsible for the following.



  • Maintain Primary and secondary standards with investigation to alternate methods. This is the start of the traceability chain in the calibration world. This serves as the foundation to all calibrations performed on site. These standards are a requirement to maintain calibration of approximately $1B worth of assets here at CTC (i.e. Wind Tunnel, NVH, Emissions, Dyno Test Ops, and EMC)
  • Ensure we have equipment that meets a 4:1 accuracy ratio for calibration test uncertainty (TUR) and provide calculations to demonstrate the ratio.
  • Evaluate new equipment purchased in the engineering community and develop in-house procedures to accommodate required turnaround time.
  • Provide/Develop solutions to reduce calibration error and increase throughput using automation and defined processes.
  • Manage/Control electronic calibration records for all equipment calibrated in-house or by supplier and make them available through an online portal.
  • Review data/calibration certification for out sourced calibration work.
  • Provide pro-active Business Partner interface and timely performance feedback, technical and operational coaching, training and development support to all Team Members
  • Provide solutions/techniques to complex calibrations that currently are not met with commercially available equipment.
  • Development of automated procedures and custom test apparatus. This requires the individual to assess the feasibility to keep in house or out source. In addition, if the customer timing can be met. This takes technical responsibility for work completed ensuring that quality standards are met.
  • Support ISO 17025 accreditation activities such as creation of budgets for in-house calibrations supporting accredited labs at CTC.
  • Maintain, install, and configure proprietary laboratory operating hardware and software.
  • Manage daily workflow for 8 SBU technicians and coordinate job details/activities with customer. This involves prioritization with the customer base and scheduling to meet completion dates.
  • Provide technical leadership to, and / or choreograph the technical guidance from the Team, to achieve timely decisions leading to high fidelity calibrations of test equipment, and instrumentation.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:



  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in:

    • Calibration of various instrumentation used in automotive testing.
    • Fluke Met/Team software with automation development.
    • Physical Sciences (Temperature, Pressure, force, etc...)
    • Principles of measurement systems and analysis (MSA)
    • Traceability Chain (NIST, A2LA, 17025, Z540)


  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in Test Uncertainty Ratio (TUR) Calculations
  • Demonstrable ability to lead technical personnel to achieve timely and effective completion of assignments.
  • Supervisory leadership with business operations - intake, process of work orders, support parts, and customer follow up.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Electrical/ Electronic Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 10+ years of operational management experience in a diverse, high throughput, SBU environment.
  • 2+ years' experience analyzing and defining test equipment / controls / data acquisition system upgrades.
