SUMMARY:

The Digital Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and deploying data-driven and digital solutions that improve operational performance, increase process visibility, and support continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

This role bridges manufacturing, data, and technology, translating shop floor needs into practical tools, applications, and insights that enable better decision-making and measurable performance improvement. The position is intentionally structured within Engineering to establish digital manufacturing as a core capability, while working cross-functionally with Continuous Improvement, Operations, and Manufacturing Engineering.

This role is expected to both respond to identified needs and proactively identify opportunities to improve operations through digital and data-driven solutions. Success is measured by operational impact and adoption of solutions, not solely by development of tools or analysis. This role requires regular engagement on the shop floor to understand process firsthand, validate opportunities, and ensure solutions are practical and sustainable.

Daily work direction and project prioritization will be coordinated by the Engineering and QA Manager in collaboration with the Industrial Systems & Manufacturing Engineer (ISME) and Continuous Improvement leadership. This role prioritizes solutions that improve throughput, visibility, quality, labor efficiency, and decision-making.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Digital Application Development

  • Design and develop internal tools and applications (e.g., Power Apps, dashboards)
  • Replace manual tracking with scalable digital solutions
  • Support the effective use and connection of ERP data and workflows (Dynamics AX/365) within operational tools and reporting
  • Maintain documentation for all developed solutions, including design logic, data sources, and update/maintenance procedures, to ensure continuity and sustainability

Data Visualization & Analytics

  • Develop dashboards for operational metrics
  • Convert data into actionable insights
  • Standardized reporting structures

Process Simulation & Modeling

  • Model manufacturing processes and bottlenecks
  • Support scenario analysis and planning
  • Validate models with real-world data

Continuous Improvement Enablement

  • Support CI events with data and analysis
  • Establish baseline metrics and quantify improvements
  • Support standardization aligned to the Kennedy Valve Way

Systems Integration & Shop Floor Connectivity

  • Connect shop floor data sources to reporting tools
  • Work through IT systems and approvals for deployment
  • Ensure scalable, standardized solutions

Data Acquisition & Systems Development

  • Implement data collection methods (sensors, devices)
  • Improve data capture strategies
  • Recommend hardware/software for data infrastructure

Emerging Technology & Automation

  • Evaluate emerging digital tools, including AI-enabled and automation technologies, for practical manufacturing applications
  • Support future automation initiatives

Cross-Functional Engagement

  • Work with Operations, Engineering, and CI teams
  • Participating in plant initiatives
  • Ensure solutions are adopted and impactful
