Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor

The School of Human Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking a 9-month Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor to join their Gerontology Program. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate expertise, along with instructional and/or professional experience, within the field of aging. This non-tenure track position will report directly to the program chair.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teach courses at the undergraduate-level (candidates eligible for the rank of teaching assistant professor may also be expected to teach graduate-level courses)
• Provide leadership at the local, regional, and national levels
• Provide service to the program, school, college, and university

This 9-month position at the rank of instructor or teaching assistant professor has a preferred starting date of August 2026, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Gerontology Program offers a range of academic options at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, the program offers a minor or secondary major in gerontology. Students enrolled in the secondary major can choose a special coursework to become eligible for long-term care administration licensure. At the graduate level, the program offers a full master's of gerontology degree or a master's certificate in gerontology. The program is highly interdisciplinary, working with programs across campus to equip students with an aging specialty. The gerontology program is also closely aligned with the KSU Center on Aging, a dynamic research and resource hub for all things aging on campus. The Center on Aging has multiple applied research and service grants, as well as engages in extensive community engagement on and off campus and beyond. The Center on Aging fosters a robust interdisciplinary faculty network spanning multiple departments and colleges across campus, bringing together diverse scholarly expertise to advance research, education, and outreach in aging-related fields.

The School of Human Sciences consists of seven primary academic programs (Conflict Resolution, Couple and Family Therapy, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Gerontology, Human Development and Family Science, and Integrative Human Sciences), as well as Cooperative Extension. The School is committed to conducting comprehensive research with a focus on well-being through multidisciplinary collaborations; providing transformational educational experiences to students; and enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through engaged and collaborative research, teaching, and service that addresses human needs and improves societal conditions.

This position is on-site.

Minimum Qualifications:

• To be eligible for the rank of Instructor:
  
  
  
  • Master's degree in gerontology or a closely related field; OR
  • Master's degree in any field, AND
  • At least 15 hours of gerontology-specific graduate-level coursework completed
  
  
  
  
• To be eligible for the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor:
  
  
  
  • Ph.D. in gerontology or a closely related field (ABD considered with Ph.D. completion date of August 2027)
  
  
  
  
• Expertise in aging, aging services, and interdisciplinary frameworks
• Experience teaching and/or mentoring in a professional setting
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for collaboration and interprofessional education opportunities
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently

The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful experience teaching at the post-secondary level
• Experience working with a variety of populations in professional settings
• Relevant professional experience
