The Extension Home and Community Department focuses on areas such as nutrition, financial well-being, mental health, and family relationships. As part of USU's land-grant mission, this internship offers hands-on experience assisting with research-based education and outreach designed to improve quality of life. Interns will help deliver programs, develop educational materials, and connect with community members in meaningful ways. Our team fosters a welcoming, supportive environment where collaboration, empathy, and growth are encouraged. Interns have opportunities to work both independently and as part of a team, with some flexibility in scheduling depending on program needs. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in Extension, community education, public health, or family and consumer sciences careers. This position is hybrid work eligible within the state of Utah, with in-person responsibilities in Price, UT. Responsibilities Program & Event Support Work cooperatively with HEART faculty to plan, organize, present, promote, and supervise special events or outreach activities (e.g., International Overdose Awareness Day event, local Coalition engagement, support Carbon & Emery Opioid & Substance Use Coalition, various education events, etc.). Research & Evaluation Engage in research activities with faculty mentor, such as collaborate to review relevant knowledge base(s), create literature reviews or publish fact sheets, collect data, analyze data, and disseminate research. Education & Content Development Assist in the creation of health materials and in the production of presentations or print materials related to health and wellness. Assist in the production of social media content and/or peer-reviewed Extension blog posts covering pertinent health and wellness topics based on community guidance and needs. Community Outreach & Partnerships Support resource awareness and dissemination to local community members for improved health and wellness (e.g., assist in the creation and organization of resource guides) based on community needs. Advertised Salary $15.00 an hour ADA The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing). Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
