The Engineering Supervisor for this Ship Control Hardware team is responsible for supervision and technical direction to a group of 12-15 engineers performing Remote Interface Controller (RIC) and Remote Interface Box (RIB) design and development for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA The RIC is the signal interface to the ship systems, perform input and output operations, executes algorithms, and provides power to ship control components including the Fault Tolerant Processing System components. The RIB is the interface between dual redundant outputs from a pair of RICS and non-redundant actuators and converts non-redundant current sensor and common alarm signals into voltage signals to a pair of redundant RICs. RIC and RIB component pairs are located throughout the boat.

The RIC/RIB Engineering Supervisor position involves assignment of work, technical guidance and direction, and approval of engineering documentation. The RIC/RIB Engineering Supervisor has frequent interaction with NAVSEA and Electric Boat Program Offices, Navy Laboratories, Electric Boat and other shipyards, as well as various subcontractors. The RIC/RIB Engineering Supervisor is also responsible for maintaining Artemis and project-level schedules and budgets as well as technical development of the group's engineers.

As the supervisor of this group, your responsibilities in support of leading your team will include:

  • Assigning work
  • Providing guidance and direction
  • Delivering results in safety, technical quality, cost and schedule performance
  • Planning, scheduling, and execution of all work necessary to complete the efforts to design, develop, and test the RICs and RIBs
  • Managing obsolete hardware components inside the RICs and RIBs
  • Interfacing with vendors and trades to coordinate builds, testing, and delivery of components to be installed on the boat
  • Monitor and drive Environmental Qualification Testing of RICs and RIBs
  • Provide dedicated engineering support to develop design products in accordance with ARTEMIS schedule
  • Interfacing with NAVSEA, Navy Laboratories, NUWC, and SUPSHIP technical and program codes
  • Vendor Management of outsourced components
  • Support incentive performance goals for the dept
  • Fostering a collaborative, hands-on, proactive, and technically rigorous approach to engineering and problem solving in a dynamic and time-sensitive environment
  • Ensuring that the root causes for problems are identified
  • Supporting employee professional development and preservation of critical technical skills and knowledge
  • Supporting work outside of normal working hours, as necessary


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • Minimum of five years engineering experience and a history of taking on roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience interfacing with government customers.
  • Current active Department of Defense Secret clearance or higher

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of OHIO, VIRGINIA or Columbia Ship Control Systems and component development.
  • Experience in IPDE.
  • Experience in System Engineering include ensuring products are developed to requirements and in accordance with development plans.
  • Experience in hardware development and hardware qualification testing. Understanding requirements for development and support of Fly-By-Wire systems
