New Hanover County is looking for a Fiscal Support Technician to join the Finance Department.
The Finance Department provides financial information and guidance to the Board of County Commissioners and County Manager in allocating public resources to meet the needs and expectations of the community. The department also maintains accurate financial information to support the overall fiscal management through a system of financial planning, reporting, and control.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Processes invoices through reviewing, verifying, and/or posting vendor invoices for payment; including identifying and recording of NC sales and use tax and voiding and reissuing outstanding checks.
- Approves vendor account modifications by verifying supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains postage account, allocates expenditures between user departments and handles return mail.
- Requests maintenance as needed for department equipment (copier, inserter/folder machine, postage meter, etc.)
- Purchases department equipment and supplies.
- Maintains computer and paper based records by preparing and updating files.
- Researches, analyzes, and compiles financial information for various department accounts.
- Performs customer service duties including responding to telephone inquiries. Sorts, distributes, delivers, and picks up mail.
- Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic mathematical principles; record keeping procedures; basic accounting principles; billing and property systems; applicable laws, rules, regulations and ordinances; financial software; and office practices and procedures. Skilled in operating computer hardware and software applications; operating various office machines; preparing various reports; interpreting financial information; maintaining inventories; providing customer service; maintaining effective work relationships; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Salary Information: The hiring range for this position starts at $36,325- $49,038 annually plus a competitive benefits package
.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and six (6) months of related clerical accounting or bookkeeping experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
