Nutanix Infrastructure Engineer 12Month Contract \| Critical Infrastructure Environment Help Power a Major Virtualization Transformation Our client is entering a critical modernization phase, transitioning a highly secure, segmented virtualization environment from VMware toward Nutanix. They're looking for a handson Nutanix Infrastructure Engineer who thrives in complex environments, values operational excellence, and enjoys being the calm, steady presence during change. Why This Role Is Interesting * You'll support critical infrastructure systems where uptime truly matters * You'll work across both connected and airgapped (dark site) environments * You'll help stabilize and modernize a platform during a multiyear VMwaretoNutanix transition * You'll combine handson technical work with structured change management and stakeholder communication This is not a "setandforget" role-it's for someone who likes owning platform health, understanding system dependencies, and doing things the right way. What You'll Be Doing Platform Operations & Stability * Maintain and support Nutanix clusters in daily operations * Respond to hardware issues such as disk, DIMM, and drive failures * Be available to physically visit data centers as needed, especially in the first 30 days * Support platform stability during patching cycles, where maintenance may surface hardware or component issues Patching & Lifecycle Management * Execute Nutanix patching across: * Internetconnected environments * Dark site (airgapped) environments * Perform limited VMware patching in a frozen, maintenanceonly environment * Ensure system uptime, compliance, and patch discipline * Support longterm vSphere lifecycle milestones through October 2027 Dark Site / AirGapped Environment Work * Operate confidently in environments with no direct internet access * Use IIS servers and internal repositories to stage and apply approved patches * Spend time working across both public and dark site environments (roughly 50/50) Change Management & Communication * Participate in structured change and maintenance processes * Clearly communicate risk, plan, and outcomes to stakeholders * Maintain documentation and follow established operational procedures within a regulated environment What You Bring Core Skills (Top Requirements) * Handson Nutanix infrastructure experience * VMware ESXi and vSphere administration * Dark site / airgapped patching experience * Strong virtualization and clustering knowledge * Prism (Element & Central) * SSH * Experience supporting critical or highly available systems Nutanix Expertise * Prism Element storage cluster administration * Nutanix AOS 6.10+ * Prism Element UI * SSH usage * Prism Central administration * AHV administration * Nutanix Lifecycle Manager (LCM) * Internetconnected and dark site upgrade workflows * Coordinated upgrades for AOS, AHV, firmware, Prism, and ESXi * Nutanix NCC health checks (pre and postpatch) VMware / vSphere Experience * vCenter Server administration * Clusters, DRS, maintenance mode, host lifecycle * vCenter Server patching and upgrades * Baselines, version compatibility, validation * ESXi host patching and upgrades * Awareness of VMware-Nutanix compatibility across AOS versions and hardware generations Additional Strengths * Understanding of hardware dependencies (UEFI vs legacy BIOS, node generations) * Experience coordinating or supporting hardware repairs * Comfortable following procedural documentation and test scripts * Experience with control validation and postupgrade review * Strong organization and communication skills Nice to Have * Experience in regulated or critical infrastructure environments * Background in utilities, energy, or highly secure enterprise environments Experience Level Intermediate Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Waukesha, WI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
