About the Role: We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Deputy Editor with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or a related field. The role will focus on the open-access journal Advanced NanoBiomed Research within the MaterialScience &Physics -Health/Biocluster, working closely with Advanced Healthcare Materials. This role entails using scientific research background, knowledge of the publishing landscape, and strong communication and networking skills to drive the strategic development of one or more journals, raising the profile and visibility of the journal(s) in the community, and attracting new authors and content. The Deputy Editor is expected to actively participate in conferences, institute visits, and broader outreach activities. They will also manage the peer review process and make decisions on submitted manuscripts. Importantly, the Deputy Editor ensures the adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standards in publishing. Job Responsibilities:
- Strategically develop one or more journals, together with the Editor-in-Chief, from scientific and publishing perspectives within the context of the broader physical sciences journal portfolio.
- Establish and maintain a strong network of scientists who are the journals' authors, peer reviewers, and board members.
- Leverage your network, knowledge of the subject area and its development, and desk research skills to drive content acquisition and submissions growth.
- Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at conferences and through in-person and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutes.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop the journal portfolio.
- Contribute to the editorial evaluation, peer review, and decision-making for manuscripts submitted to one or more journals.
Required Skills:
- A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or a related field with an excellent research background and a strong understanding of recent trends and developments.
- 2+ years of post-PhD work experience (Post-doctoral, Industrial, Academic, Publishing, and/or international experience) would be beneficial but not essential.
- Subject matter expertise in all fields of biomedical engineering, biomaterials, nanomedicine, and therapeutics, and/or related fields
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a flexible and innovative approach to problems and a focus on defining and achieving outcomes.
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting and achieve results through personal influence and engagement.
- A self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible approach with outstanding organizational, efficiency, and time management skills and an excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal).
- A strong understanding of scientific publishing, including commissioning and the peer-review process. Prior experience in publishing, editorial, or science communication and understanding of Open Access workflows and Open Research is highly desirable.
- A keen interest in science and science communication, and a strong desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.
- Confidence to present and represent the journal portfolio at conferences

We are committed to fair, transparent pay, and we strive to provide competitive compensation in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. The range below represents Wiley's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base pay for this role at the time of posting roles either in the United Kingdom, Canada or USA. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
