Job Description:

We believe in bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the drive to transform knowledge into impact. Here, your curiosity fuels progress, your voice shapes innovation, and your ambition helps redefine what's possible within science and learning. We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges, and drives what's next to power infinite possibilities for our customers, colleagues and society at large.

About the Role:

Position Overview
As the VP, Head of Technology, you will be the primary architect and engineering leader for a high-growth business division at Wiley. This role is designed for a "builder-leader"-someone who remains hands-on with the latest AI-assisted development tools while possessing the veteran experience to manage global engineering teams and deliver enterprise-grade systems. You will lead the technical execution of a strategic business model focused on maximizing advertisement revenue, scaling proprietary database products, and launching a premier Research Intelligence Platform. You will bridge the gap between complex data engineering and commercial strategy, directly shaping how Wiley masters and merges massive-scale public data with high-value private assets.
Key Responsibilities
  • Data Mastering: Design and oversee the architecture for ingesting massive-scale public datasets and seamlessly merging them with proprietary private data to create unique, defensible insights.
  • Modern Engineering Leadership: Drive a high-velocity development culture by integrating cutting-edge AI-assisted coding workflows (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to accelerate the delivery of complex data pipelines.
  • Enterprise Delivery: Own the end-to-end lifecycle of large-scale SaaS products, ensuring they meet rigorous enterprise standards for security, uptime, and scalability.
  • Cloud & AI Strategy: Manage a robust, cloud-native infrastructure (AWS/Azure) designed for heavy data processing, Medallion Architecture, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems.
  • Global Team Management: Lead and mentor a hybrid engineering organization, with a specific focus on optimizing workflows, code quality, and security protocols across offshore development teams.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner directly with the General Manager to align technical roadmaps with business milestones, ensuring the division's AI-powered vision is realized.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • The "Data Master": 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of building large-scale pipelines that aggregate, clean, and master disparate data sources into "Golden Records."
  • AI-Native Development: Deep, hands-on familiarity with LLMs and modern developer productivity tools. You must demonstrate how tools like Claude and Cursor can be used to significantly increase engineering output.
  • Offshore Excellence: Extensive experience managing offshore or distributed teams, with the ability to maintain high velocity and architectural integrity across time zones.
  • Enterprise Veteran: Proven ability to deliver systems that meet SOC2 Type II, ISO 27001, and GDPR/CCPA compliance standards, particularly when handling sensitive private partner data.
  • Cloud Expert: Expert-level understanding of cloud-native data warehousing (Snowflake/Databricks), Vector Databases (Pinecone/Weaviate), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Pulumi).
Technical Stack Proficiency
  • Languages & Tools: Python, SQL, Cursor, Claude/Anthropic API, LangChain/LlamaIndex, and Agentic Frameworks (e.g., CrewAI).
  • Data Architecture: Spark/Flink, Airflow/Dagster, and Medallion data structures.
  • Infrastructure: AWS or Azure, Docker/Kubernetes, and Zero-Trust security environments for offshore collaboration.
