Job Description Summary:
AI AND META ANALYSIS
The Institute for Data, Democracy and Politics (IDDP) and the Institute for Trustworthy AI in Law
& Society (TRAILS)
, both located at George Washington University, are seeking exceptional
candidates for a full-time, academic research position at the rank of post-doctoral fellow. The
position is for a one-year term, with the potential to extend to a second year.
Supervised jointly by IDDP and TRAILS, the postdoctoral fellow will work on topics related to AI,
meta-analysis of scientific literature, and trustworthiness in AI. The scholar will have deep
expertise in AI, meta-analysis, and/or social science. As part of their role, the scholar will be
responsible for building and maintaining AI-assisted meta-analyses. The scholar will also be
responsible for improving generalizable knowledge about the trustworthiness in AI literature,
including but not limited through the use of meta-analyses. The ideal candidate will have an
interest in building scientific infrastructure. There are no teaching responsibilities associated
with this position. The position is located at GW's Foggy Bottom campus in Washington, DC,
and will report to the faculty directors of IDDP and TRAILS.
This postdoctoral researcher will participate in the planning of independent research, will
analyze and interpret data, will publish results, will represent the university at conferences and
meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. Extensive professional
experience using statistical software (e.g., R and Python) and AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) are a
key requirement for the position. Successful candidates should show potential to excel in tasks
related to meta-analysis and AI. This position may also help lead and direct the work of
research assistants and other staff. This role performs work under the supervision of
experienced researchers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Conceptualize, design and analyze research related to AI and meta-analysis
* Collaborate with affiliated researchers and faculty pursuing more narrowly specified projects in
addition to the pursuit of individual project interests.
* Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude
the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the award of a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field by the date of employment.
Desired Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in relevant field - completed or close to completion by the start date
  • Research ability demonstrated by two conference or journal publications, book chapters, or equivalent (potentially unpublished) writing samples, requested as part of the application
  • Research agenda that overlaps with at least two faculty at GWU
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment
  • Participation in the applicant's broader scientific community
  • Strong communication skills


Hiring Range $62,232-$80,000
