This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for general warehouse and freezer labor tasks in the Culture Packaging area. The position requires an individual to be able to work in an ultra-cold freezer (-55C/-67F) for extended periods of time, potentially up to over 10 hours per shift. This position works Monday-Friday with hours of 7am-3:30pm.

In this role you'll make an impact by:
  • Reading paperwork and/or taking oral instructions required to locate stock in the ultra-cold storage area.
  • Accurately picking product, by item, batch and quantity and place product in staging bin when complete.
  • Transporting material to the storage area; optimizes space available by consolidates and rotates stock daily.
  • Entering data into SAP to update product's freezer location.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory on an hourly basis.
  • Planning for and executing daily storage requirements of new materials entering freezer.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the freezer by scraping ice off the floors.
  • Cycle counting inventory on a weekly basis and fixing inconsistencies.
  • Organizing the movement, loading and unloading, and bulk rotation of the Super Freezer trailers.
  • Filling sample requests of frozen bulk from -55C freezer daily.
  • Packaging our Flex Bag product by hand.
  • Unloading and putting away packaging supplies.
  • Locating stock. Counting, weighing, and recording number of units of material moved, handled, or shipped. Prepping materials for shipment by palletizing, banding, wrapping and labeling shipments. Pick and package finished products per work orders.
  • Verifing and report frozen trailers are functioning correctly and are at safe temperatures.
  • Adhering to guidelines as set forth by religious dietary law certifications (Kosher and Halal).
To succeed you must hold:
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to the production process including conversion of weight and volume in the metric system.
  • Ability to read and follow a production journal to packaging finished goods.
  • Ability to operate a pallet walker and/or forklift, preferred.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrench) for assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers regarding the status of the production process.
  • Basic computer skills. ERP system knowledge (SAP), preferred.
  • These characteristics are normally acquired through a High School Diploma or GED with experience in a production environment preferred.

Working Conditions

Working environment is an ultra-cold freezer (80% of workday), or ambient warehouse conditions (20% of workday). Frequently comes in contact with extremely cold conditions, including frequent exposure to wet, humid, dusty, or loud conditions, moving parts and equipment, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. Most of the day is spent working in confined areas and slippery floors. A company issued uniform is required to be worn along with Personal Protective Equipment at all times. This includes ultra-cold freezer clothing, face mask, hat, gloves, boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, man-down radio, and safety shoes. Computer entry work occurs in an ambient warehouse environment. Strict compliance to "air lock" rules to avoid interdepartmental contamination.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; scoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and use foot/feet to operate machines. Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. (assisted). Also, must be able to pull trolleys that weigh up to 940 lbs. This includes repetitive bending and lifting of items to stack or dump. Must be able to work under hot or extreme cold, wet, and sometimes dusty, and loud conditions, dust mask, coveralls and, or hearing protection may be required.
