The Port is currently recruiting for the position of Power Equipment Operator. Under general supervision, the incumbent works as an operator of large road construction machinery. The incumbent operates and makes minor repairs to heavy motorized equipment such as rollers, cranes, shovels, compressors and graders. This work requires considerable manipulative skill. Caution must be exercised to prevent injury to workers and property. Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum requirements include graduation from high school AND one year of journeyman experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy power equipment. Must possess a valid Class A Driver’s License at the time of and for the duration of appointment.
Additional Requirements: Incumbents in this classification may be assigned either to the airport or harbor work location. In order to comply with the security requirements of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for incumbents assigned to the airport and U.S. Customs for individuals who have unescorted access to secured areas of the harbor, each incumbent is required to successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check, which will include a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA), prior to being considered for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (“KSAs”):
Knowledge of the operation of a wide variety of heavy motorized power equipment; cables, chains, pulleys, steam hoists, and related rigging equipment used in the operation of power equipment. Ability to operate a wide variety of heavy motorized power equipment; use cables, chains, pulleys, steam hoists, and related rigging equipment incidental to the operation of power equipment; make operating repairs and adjustments to power equipment; estimate weights and distances quickly.
In addition, the incumbent assigned to the airport will be required to complete and pass a U.S. Customs Airport Security Program Check (19CFR122.182). This status must be maintained for the duration of employment at the Airport. Similar requirements may be required for employment at the Harbor as associated with Homeland Security initiatives.
