Description

The Leidos National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) Program is looking for a Technical Writer to support the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Office of Advanced Aviation Technologies (AAT). The Office of Advanced Aviation Technologies will be the designated point for activities related to the integration of advanced aviation technologies including Advance Air Mobility, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Supersonic aircraft in United States.

Our team supports a wide range of FAA organizations in achieving their business objectives under a NISC IV contract. The selected candidate will provide communications support including strategic planning, producing marketing and communications collateral, executing internal and external communications campaigns, and developing information products.

The incumbent will develop, draft, and update written communications for executive leadership, translating complex aviation concepts into clear, persuasive language for diverse audiences, including industry experts and government officials. This position collaborates with the Communications Specialist to ensure internal communications are compliant and information is consistent with any corresponding external documents.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop clear and concise communications products and materials for internal or external audiences. Conduct research to develop new content and update existing materials. Define metrics to track communications effectiveness. Support the clients by applying creative problem-solving and an entrepreneurial approach.

Other duties include researching technical reference materials, gathering relevant technical information, coordinating with stakeholders or other experts, developing draft and final copies of documentation while ensuring documents meet editorial and government specifications and adhering to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.

Specific tasks will include:

  • Assist FAA professionals in the development of professional documents, develop presentations, and communications products as well as provide status updates, decision briefs, technical documents, training materials, web content, technical writing, and editing.
  • Enhance and customize presentation using visualization tools and graphics.
  • Develop prototype and operational communication resources that include paper-based, web-based, and mobile-based applications as requested by FAA program office.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) as well as reference guides catered to various end users for new programs and processes.
  • Convert and transcribe presentation and/or other multimedia to PDF format.
  • Write, edit, proofread and/or provide writing support on non-technical and/or technical documents.
  • Responsible for ensuring official documents are compliant with policies, guidelines, and procedures with adherence to plain language guidelines and communication best practices, and FAA Office of Communications (AOC) branding guidelines.
  • Ensure alignment of new products to FAA's Office of Information Technology (AIT) standards.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent, verifiable writing skills with demonstrated experience writing and editing various types of communications to include meeting summaries, policy manuals/user guides, and communications plans.
  • The candidate must have ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) to various levels of management, including data presentations through charts, graphs, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, Office, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of visualization tools, graphics, and template generation.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 Compliance requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security clearance.
  • Requires a BA degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional attributes that will help ensure success:

  • Prior experience working in federal government contracting, FAA is a plus.
  • Highly developed presentation skills.
  • Working proficiency of 508 Compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Google Workspace.
