Overview & Position Summary

This position supports advanced drafting and documentation needs for architectural design and product development, working independently under limited supervision to deliver high-quality drawings and technical details. This role prepares, reviews, and refines complex plans and construction documents, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and alignment with organizational standards. It collaborates with cross-functional teams, resolves difficult drafting challenges, and contributes expertise to maintain consistency and efficiency across projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Produce and refine complex architectural drawings, plans, elevations, and technical details
  • Review construction documents for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with design intent, standards, and code requirements
  • Resolve difficult drafting issues by applying prior experience, analytical thinking, and knowledge of related job areas
  • Coordinate with architects, designers, engineers, and internal partners to clarify design requirements and ensure coordinated documentation
  • Lead updates to plans and documentation based on field feedback, operational needs, and design revisions
  • Maintain and enhance drafting standards, templates, and documentation practices
  • Support cross-functional collaboration by providing expertise on technical drawing requirements and best practices
  • Recommend improvements to drafting workflows, tools, and quality control processes
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to employees within the drafting job area
  • Assist in managing documentation systems, version control, and file organization to support efficient project execution

Education & Experience

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant drafting or architectural documentation experience, or equivalent (e.g., 9-11 years total experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in drafting, architecture, design, or a related field
  • Experience producing and coordinating complex architectural drawings
  • Experience working independently on advanced drafting assignments

Preferred:

  • Additional experience drafting for residential, homebuilding, or construction projects
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural documentation standards and drafting workflows
  • Experience using CAD or architectural drafting software platforms

Skills & Competencies

  • Broad knowledge of drafting standards, architectural principles, and construction documentation
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage complex drafting tasks with limited supervision
  • Advanced problem-solving skills for addressing issues that span multiple job areas or specialties
  • Effective communication and influencing skills within and outside the drafting sub-function
  • Proficiency with drafting software, digital documentation systems, and plan management tools
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
  • Skill in coaching, guiding, and training other drafting team members
  • Ability to contribute to process improvements and documentation standardization

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a general office environment with periodic visits to construction sites or model homes. Travel may be required to support coordination meetings or project reviews.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to operate drafting tools, computers, and standard office equipment
  • Ability to review detailed architectural drawings and technical materials
  • Ability to move within office environments to access files, equipment, or materialsAbility to travel to project sites or division locations as needed
