Position Summary
The Building
Maintenance & Event Set-Up Technician is responsible for ensuring the synagogue's facilities are safe, well-maintained, and properly prepared for daily operations, services, programs, rentals, and community gatherings. This position works cl
osely with and reports to the Building Facilities Manager.
Evening and weekend availability is required based on the event schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Event & Program Support
- Perform setup and teardown for synagogue services, programs, rentals, and special events (tables, chairs, staging, podiums, etc.).
- Set up and operate audio/visual equipment including microphones, speakers, projectors, screens, and presentation systems.
- Provide support for Zoom meetings, livestreams, and hybrid events, including basic troubleshooting of connectivity and equipment issues.
- Ensure rooms and common areas are prepared according to event specifications and restored afterward.
- Provide on-site support during events as needed.
Maintenance & Facilities Support
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical/HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Respond promptly to urgent maintenance calls or emergencies while on duty.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, equipment, and basic A/V materials; notify supervisor when restocking or replacement is needed.
- Assist with seasonal facility needs, including coordination of snow removal and oversight of lawn or landscape maintenance services.
- Ensure all safety standards are met and promptly report hazards or safety concerns.
- Reorganize and reset the sanctuary and chapel spaces following services and events to ensure readiness for future use.
- Run miscellaneous errands as needed to support synagogue operations and activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in general building maintenance, facilities management, or skilled trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC)
- Experience setting up and troubleshooting basic audio/visual equipment and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom).
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues quickly and calmly during live events.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact professionally with staff, congregants, volunteers, and vendors.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform manual labor as required.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Experience in a house of worship or nonprofit facility is a plus.
