Slide Attendant

Position Summary:

Performs aquatic duties that include supervision and safe operation of the waterslide area. Maintains a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.


Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for operating the top of the waterslide, ensuring safe and appropriate dispatch of patrons.

2. Knows, understands, and enforces all waterslide rules, safety guidelines, and facility policies.

3. Maintains vigilant awareness of the slide entry area and surrounding spaces to ensure patron safety at all times.

4. Communicates rules and safety expectations in a firm, fair, and respectful manner, demonstrating YMCA values.

5. Works closely with the Aquatics Director and Lifeguards to maintain a safe environment and support emergency procedures when needed.

6. Ensures the waterslide area is clean, organized, and free of hazards.

7. Attends required staff meetings, trainings, and certifications as scheduled.

8. Provides excellent customer service and maintains positive relationships with members, participants, and staff.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum age of 16 years.

2. Ability to obtain required certifications within 30 days of hire: BLS, First Aid, and Administering Emergency Oxygen.

3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.

4. Ability to enforce rules tactfully and maintain a safe, positive environment.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, interpret,retainand teach safety rules, maintenanceinstructionsand aquatics education manuals.Ability towriteroutine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, members and other staff, as wellasone-on-one situations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract,multiplyand divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, commonfractionsand decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense, understanding and sound judgmentto carry out instructions in written, verbal or diagram form, including assisting with curriculum learning.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability tomaintainconfidentiality. Ability to be sensitive and alert to theneedsfeeling and safety of others. Ability to followYMCA policies and procedures and state health department code requirements.

The employee mustfrequentlymove and/orlift upto 60 pounds.Possess adequate vision and hearing to safelymonitorand aquatic environment and children. Ability to remain alert, continuously scan all areas of the pool withclearvisionand perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue. Ability to hear voices, distinguish distress signals and communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in both normal and loud situations.

Hours

Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day,eveningsand weekends.

Travel
