DESCRIPTION

This position will play an important part of a dynamic group of Scientists making leading edge discoveries in stem cell and cancer biology. Under supervision, this position will perform duties as a laboratory research technician including: 1) assists with characterization of leukemia growth and survival, 2) performs routine experiments under guidance involving genetic manipulation and transplantation of leukemia stem cells, 3) assists with quantification of gene/protein expression, signal transduction pathway activation and protein homeostasis in leukemia cells in response to drug treatment.

Procedures will include cellular and molecular biology techniques including: flow cytometry, cell sorting, PCR, Western blotting, high throughput sequencing library generation, microscopy, cloning virus preparation, tissue culture and gene editing. This position will work under close technical supervision on all initial assignments. Other duties assigned as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical and/or practical knowledge in cellular and molecular biology, immunology, stem cell or related field.

  • Experience performing in vivo mouse experiments.

  • Experience with flow cytometry, cell sorting, and FlowJo data analysis.

  • Experience in performing molecular biology techniques including genetic manipulation, cloning and quantification of gene and protein expression.

  • Experience with cell culture.

  • Experience performing general biochemistry and laboratory techniques such as preparing buffers and solutions.

  • Experience in following step based experimental protocols.

  • Solid computer skills using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email system. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain databases, perform standard computer tasks, learn new programs/applications with minimal direction, and exercise fast and accurate typing skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to update and maintain laboratory and technology skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong, demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing. Possess skills of tact, poise, diplomacy, confidentiality and flexibility in a laboratory environment that interacts with a diverse group of research and technical personnel.

  • Ability to comply with UCSD policies regarding laboratory safety including regulations and methods for handling, cleanup and waste disposal of biohazardous materials.

  • Demonstrated experience with general lab maintenance and organization.

  • Demonstrated skill and ability to keep accurate, organized and through research records.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.Must be willing to work with animals, lentivirus, radioactive material, human tissue and standard hazardous laboratory compounds.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $59,905 - $71,451 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.69 - $34.22

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
