Job Summary

Under general supervision, provide participants from culturally diverse and disadvantaged background with academic skills and enrichment in a 6-week Summer Program (June 22nd thru July 30th); develop academic curriculum for classroom instruction in the subject area of English specifically for high school students; provide tutorial assistance; conduct pre- and post-testing; provide written evaluation of student's programs; maintain academic records; and participate in Upward Bound's extracurricular activities. May be required to provide instruction in an elective course.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • no Minimum Education required.
  • Experience developing academic curricula and interactive classroom instruction specifically for high school students.
  • Experience teaching high school students in the areas of English (literature, composition, critical reading, and grammar).
  • Skills to evaluate students' needs and progress.
  • Skills to establish and maintain supportive relationships with multi-ethnic participants from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Skills to establish, develop, and maintain supportive working relationships with all staff.
  • A valid CA multi-subject or single subject teaching credential or a Master's degree at the start of employment or currently enrolled in a credential program or Master's program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with TRIO programs.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Common Core State Standards.

Department Overview

College Opportunity Programs (COP) works in partnership with administrators, teachers and students in specified elementary, middle and high schools in regional K-12 school districts. The goal of COP is to increase the number of students from historically low college enrollment communities who prepare for post-secondary preparation with the emphasis on college/university preparation.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
