Salary: The budgeted salary range for the position is $110,000 to $150,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Position Summary
The Gynecology Safety & Quality Specialist, within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and in close collaboration with the UI Health Quality Department, promotes safe, high-quality care for patients receiving gynecologic services at UI Health. This role bridges frontline clinical operations with structured quality and patient safety oversight to support high-reliability care delivery across ambulatory, operating room, and inpatient gynecologic settings. Through dedicated oversight, the position helps ensure care delivery remains efficient, compliant, and aligned with established standards and best practices.

The role is clinically active within the department of obstetrics and gynecology, working collaboratively with frontline clinical teams, and may assist across multiple care settings, including outpatient clinics and operating rooms, as operational needs arise.

The position reports administratively within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a strong collaborative and reporting relationship to the Chief Quality Officer (or designee).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain active clinical engagement within gynecology service areas, including outpatient clinics and perioperative settings, as operational needs require.
  • Support adherence to established clinical standards, protocols, and workflows.
  • Promote effective care coordination across ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient environments.
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies, safety risks, and barriers impacting patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate and track cases for the Gynecology Quality Improvement Committee. Assist with meetings as required.
  • Participate in the development and advancement of gynecology service goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate goal setting related to Gynecology quality priorities.
  • Oversee data collection and preparation of the monthly quality dashboard.
  • Prepare and disseminate monthly quality and safety reports, including HSQC reporting.
  • Disseminate patient safety updates at the departmental and institutional levels.
  • Co-lead quality improvement initiatives as directed by the Gynecology Executive Committee, Chief Quality Officer (or designee), or the UI Health system.
  • Provide formal and informal safety education within the gynecology service line.
  • Support the faculty mentoring program and other departmental mentoring initiatives related to gynecology quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with the Continuous Quality & Process Improvement team within UI Health and the UIC College of Medicine.
  • Collaborate with surgical and institutional committees and participate in perioperative safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with NSQIP in tracking of gynecology perioperative complications.
  • Assist Risk Management in case review and safety assessments as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
  • Current, unrestricted Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license required.
  • Five (5) years of gynecologic, surgical, or obstetrical clinical experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Experience in clinical safety and/or quality initiatives, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate and facilitate across teams.
