Position Title: Scientist II

Work Location: Irvine, CA 92612

Assignment Duration: 12 Months

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate working knowledge and understanding of formulation and manufacturing process development for sterile liquid drug products, including solutions, emulsions, and suspensions. Knowledge of polymer sciences is highly desired. Experience with various sterilization techniques for liquid drug products, such as filtration, and autoclaving, is desired. The candidate should have experience with analytical measurements and characterization techniques such as pH, osmolality, viscosity/rheology, turbidity, particle size, and physical appearance. Hands-on experience with HPLC and UPLC (with detectors such as UV, PDA, and RI) is also desired but not required.

Background & Context:

This role supports sterile liquid drug product development activities within the organization, focusing on formulation and process development in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting laboratory experiments for development of pharmaceutical products, with focus on sterile liquid dosage forms under supervision and guidance of the group members.
  • Conducting analytical & characterization experiments to generate scientifically sound data supporting the formulation and manufacturing process development efforts of liquid dosage forms.
  • Designing and interpreting experiments independently whenever the situation demands.
  • Employing problem-solving and creative scientific skills.
  • Working independently to generate accurate, reliable data on time and accurately documenting in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Practicing good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Upon assignment given by the team, the candidate will independently plan and execute lab-scale experiments related to sterile liquid formulation and manufacturing process development. Prompt and accurate documentation of experiments, results, and conclusions to ensure data integrity and accuracy is critical. The candidate independently analyzes and interprets technical data and utilizes statistical techniques as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities include proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure laboratory operational capability.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, or other relevant scientific discipline with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience or a master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy or other relevant scientific discipline with 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills. Must be proficient using Word, Excel, and statistical software. Knowledge of fundamental application of statistics is preferred.
  • Experience in analyzing data and writing technical reports is desired.
  • Strong knowledge of liquid formulations and experience with design of experiments for formulation screening.
  • Experience using basic characterization tools such as pH measurement, osmolality testing, and viscosity analysis.
  • Process development experience such as scale-up and sterilization.
