The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Energy Manager to support the University's commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and responsible resource management. This role offers the opportunity to lead and influence energy conservation initiatives across campus facilities, leveraging data-driven strategies to optimize utility usage, reduce costs, and enhance environmental performance. The ideal candidate will collaborate across departments to implement innovative solutions that support long-term energy goals and campus-wide engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and report on utility consumption (electricity, natural gas, water, and waste), providing monthly insights and performance metrics.

  • Conduct energy audits, benchmarking, and modeling to identify conservation opportunities and improve efficiency.

  • Develop and implement energy management strategies, including energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.

  • Track utility budgets and support financial planning through detailed reporting and analysis.

  • Partner with Facilities and campus stakeholders to identify and resolve building system inefficiencies, including HVAC, lighting, and control systems.

  • Support the development and execution of the University's Energy Master Plan, including long-term sustainability goals.

  • Research and pursue utility incentives, rebates, and grant opportunities to support energy projects.

  • Provide recommendations to leadership on energy conservation measures, system upgrades, and renewable energy solutions.

  • Promote campus-wide awareness and engagement in energy conservation initiatives.

  • Serve as a liaison between Facilities, utility providers, and external partners.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in a related field such as Facilities Management, Engineering, or Energy Management.

  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical, maintenance, or energy management-related roles.

  • Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and control systems.

  • Experience analyzing utility data and implementing energy conservation measures.

  • Strong understanding of energy management principles, commissioning, and retro-commissioning.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data analysis.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and system diagrams.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across diverse teams.

  • Ability to obtain Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification within two years of hire.

Preferred:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent certification.

  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS/DDC) and utility metering systems.

  • Knowledge of energy savings performance contracts and sustainability reporting.

  • Experience with GIS, AI/machine learning applications related to energy efficiency.
