Summary:

The Biostatistics Intern provides statistical support for clinical and translational research conducted by the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute at Akron Children's. This graduatelevel internship offers handson experience applying biostatistical methods to realworld healthcare research under the mentorship of biostatisticians and research methodologists. The role supports multiple active studies and exposes the intern to diverse study designs, data types, and clinical domains.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist research teams with the development of statistical analysis plans, including definition of endpoints, analysis populations, and analytic methods.

2. Conduct power and sample size calculations for proposed and ongoing research studies.

3. Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses using R and/or Python, including regression modeling, survival analysis, and mixedeffects models as appropriate to study design

4. Prepare statistical tables, figures, and summaries for abstracts, reports, and manuscript submissions.

5. Support data quality review and collaborate with the Research Methods & Data Science team to ensure datasets meet protocol and analysis requirements.

6. Participate in study team meetings and contribute statistical input to research planning and interpretation of results.

Technical Expertise

1. Proficiency in R or Python for statistical analysis and data visualization.

2. Knowledge of core biostatistical methods, including regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and study design principles.

3. Ability to document analytic code and results using reproducible research practices.

4. Familiarity with survival analysis, longitudinal data methods, causal inference frameworks, or healthcare data structures preferred.

5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage work across multiple concurrent projects.

6. Experience writing or contributing to statistical sections of grants, protocols, or manuscripts preferred.

7. Familiarity with reproducible research practices (e.g., R Markdown, version control) preferred.

8. Knowledge of healthcare data structures or common clinical data standards preferred.

Education and Experience

1. Education: Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program (MS or PhD) in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Behavioral Science, or a closely related quantitative field. Completion of at least one year of graduate coursework prior to the internship. Must be returning to at least one additional semester of graduate study following the internship.
