Architectural Fabrication Specialist (Woodworking, CNC & Digital Modeling)

Location: Minneapolis, MN

We are seeking a highly skilled and detailoriented Architectural Fabrication Specialist to join our team. This role combines handson craftsmanship with advanced digital fabrication, supporting the creation of architectural models, prototypes, mockups, and custom installations. You will work closely with designers, architects, and project teams to bring concepts to life through precise, wellcrafted physical outputs.

The ideal candidate is comfortable moving fluidly between the shop floor and digital modeling environments, with a strong understanding of materials, fabrication workflows, and the technical requirements of architectural production.

In this role you will:

Fabrication & Craftsmanship

  • Build highquality architectural models, components, and assemblies using wood, plastics, foam, and specialty materials.
  • Execute precise cutting, shaping, sanding, assembly, and finishing tasks.
  • Produce prototypes and mockups that support design development and client presentations.

Digital Fabrication

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot CNC routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers.
  • Prepare and optimize digital files for fabrication, including toolpaths, Gcode, and print files.
  • Translate 3D models into accurate, buildable components with appropriate tolerances.

Technical Interpretation & Collaboration

  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with designers and architects to refine fabrication strategies and resolve design challenges.
  • Provide input on constructability, material choices, and fabrication sequencing.

Workflow & Shop Operations

  • Assist in material selection, procurement, and inventory tracking.
  • Contribute to fabrication planning, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Support continuous improvement of shop processes, tools, and workflows.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (architecture, industrial design, fabrication, or related discipline).
  • Basic to intermediate woodworking skills (cutting, joinery, assembly, finishing).
  • Experience operating CNC machines, including setup, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, or similar).
  • Basic understanding of materials, tolerances, and fabrication workflows
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following software tools: Rhino, Revit, Fusion 360, SketchUp.
  • Knowledge of additional digital tools: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Grasshopper, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and digital models.
  • Experience in architectural model making, fabrication shops, or designbuild environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and precision.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced environment.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a willingness to experiment and iterate.

Salary Information:

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA's robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $36.82 - $45.74/hr depending on qualifications and experience.
