The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is the leading professional association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners in the United States, representing more than 100,000 members across 270+ state and local components. AIA advocates at every level of government on issues central to the profession and the public: housing affordability, building codes and resilience, professional licensure, climate action, and procurement reform.

Position Summary:

The Intern will support CADE program implementation, data analysis, and communications to strengthen member engagement, improve data-driven insights, and enhance public-facing storytelling to advance climate action and regenerative practice in the built environment.

Responsibilities:

Data & Visualization

  • Clean, organize, and analyze datasets (AIA 2030 Commitment, Materials Pledge, COTE Top Ten)
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations (Power BI or similar)
  • Support GIS mapping and data organization

Member Engagement

  • Conduct outreach to member firms for climate action and design excellence program reporting and participation
  • Support volunteer program coordination and CRM tracking
  • Assist with resilience and disaster response initiatives such as development of the new Resilience and Disaster Response Information Hub

Communications & Research

  • Prepare data summaries and maintain resource libraries
  • Conduct research on sustainability, resilience, and building performance
  • Draft short-form content (blogs, newsletters, web updates)

General Support

  • Assist with meetings, research, and program coordination

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in architecture, environmental studies, sustainability, planning, public policy, data science, or a related field.
  • Basic data analysis skills; familiarity with Excel and interest in tools like PowerBI or GIS.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and engage professionally in a team setting.
  • Interest in climate action, resilience, or the built environment, with enthusiasm for nonprofit work.

Learning Opportunities:

Internship Details

This is an 8-week, full-time remote paid Summer internship which will run fromJune 15, 2026 - August 7, 2026.

Eligible applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
