Job Description

PSE's Operations Support team is looking for qualified candidates to establish a qualified candidate pool for their Pathway to Apprenticeship Program! Please visit our website to learn more about our program and selection process.

Puget Sound Energy is seeking people interested in qualifying for future Pathway to Apprenticeship (PTA) opportunities in the energy sector. PTA jobs are entry level positions that lead into Apprenticeship opportunities. These positions give you the opportunity to learn about the company and work with a diverse group of people while learning the tools-of-the-trade. PSE offers Apprenticeship programs in: Substation Wire, Hydro Electrician, Hydro Mechanic, Electric Meter and Combustion Turbine Specialist.



As Apprentice openings become available, they will be filled based on seniority by employees holding PTA positions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18 years of age by NJATC Aptitude test date.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 full year of high school level algebra with a grade of "C" or better or college equivalent
  • While no experience is necessary, we are looking for aptitude, a good attitude, and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others and respond to public inquiries or concerns.
  • Must maintain necessary certifications and licenses, and develop a working knowledge of all Company standards, practices, policies, procedures, safety regulations, codes and
  • State regulations as they pertain to the job.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • This position may require the applicant to have and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including necessary endorsements and removal of air brake restriction.

Selection Process Overview

Applicants meeting the minimum requirements will be invited to take the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (NJATC) test for the electrical industry. Upon receipt of the online application, a full packet of required forms and materials will be sent via email for completion and submission prior to testing.

Supplementary application materials that will need to be provided:



  • Proof of HS Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Copy of Driver's License or Birth Certificate
  • Copy of High School or College Transcript reflecting completion of a full year of high school level algebra with a grade of "C" or better or at least one quarter/semester of college-level algebra (100 level or higher) with a "C" or better



These supplementary application materials must be uploaded at the time of application. No exceptions will be made.




  • Applicants successfully passing the NJATC test will be invited to interview and complete a craft specific assessment. Applicants will then receive a score based on their interview, assessment, and test scores and will then be ranked in the PTA Qualified Pool.
  • As PTA positions become available, they will be offered to those in the qualified pool in order of their combined scores.
  • Successful candidates will be required to participate in PTA training opportunities.
  • Those holding PTA positions are then eligible to bid on apprenticeship positions as they become available. This is part of the occupational progression as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
  • These are safety sensitive positions which are subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • These are IBEW Represented positions, and the successful candidates will become members of the IBEW.
  • The selected candidate will need to be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Job opportunities will be throughout PSE's service territory which covers much of Western Washington.
  • Relocation may be required.
  • Candidates will be subject to pre-employment screening including a physical capacity assessment (for ability to perform essential job functions).

The pay range for this position is $31.35 - $40.72, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
